Always Try to work with Enchanted Jewelry when doing skill ups. the turn around of cost VS fails almost pays for itself 

when i went from skill 200 to 250 i took 15k with me from the bank and once all was said and done i was at skill 250 and had 15005pp on me ... i was totally shocked for sure.

i DID  however have a max WIS of 355 and a max Buffed STR and Dex of 305 when doing all the combines. witch im sure helped to get more skill ups and less fails. 

im not totally sure yet on weather i would recommend using a Geerlock for skill ups or not. im not sure if i had just bad random luck with it or what. but it seemed to yeild more fails with it equipped than when it was not equipped. and yes i still had 355 WIS with the Geerlock. but feel free to use or not use it. 

i just followed this chat pretty much, and it all worked out easy

the only times i didnt follow it was if i just finished a stack of Plat bars and the Gem only had 1 point left till it was Trivial,  i would usually just buy 20 of the next gem in line. didn't have any issues with this either

on average i failed about 1 in 20 combines id say. and had between 0 and 2 skill ups per stack of 20 with an average of just under 1 skill up per 20 combines

Good luck if you will be attempting Jewelcraft, but if not you can always see me in game for a quick combine

also depending how cost sensitive you are if you are only say doing JC for the 7th and 8th shawls you can skip some of the lower Gems altogether and just skip a few when working with silver and electrum
